In December 2021, the average import price for mica, including splittings; mica wastes amounted to $955 per ton, picking up by 7% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2021 an increase of 17% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $987 per ton in February 2021; however, from March 2021 to December 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Canada ($988 per ton) and China ($987 per ton), while the price for Japan ($670 per ton) and the United States ($987 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for mica, including splittings; mica wastes stood at $5,995 per ton in 2022, reducing by -3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 178%. The export price peaked at $18,898 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($63,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($5,160 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+34.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
