The average import price for molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), frozen, dried, salted or in brine stood at $6,139 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $9,951 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($32,500 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($2,012 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 28 tons of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), frozen, dried, salted or in brine were imported into Costa Rica; with an increase of 20% against 2021. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 275% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 33 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), frozen, dried, salted or in brine surged to $172K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 156%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $198K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
