The average import price for molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), frozen, dried, salted or in brine stood at $6,139 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 36%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $9,951 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($32,500 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($2,012 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
