The average import price for molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds stood at $9,255 per ton in 2022, which is down by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 29%. The import price peaked at $11,929 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($12,543 per ton), while the price for France ($6,691 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+12.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $22,443 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($10,222 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania totaled $4,500 per ton.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (-4.3%).

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds decreased by -9.3% to 6.8 tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 26% against the previous year.

In value terms, imports of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds declined to $63K in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $74K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
