The average export price for molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds stood at $7,093 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -21.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 41%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $9,336 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($13,329 per ton), while the average price for exports to Maldives ($6,718 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $15,113 per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($28,676 per ton), while the price for Australia totaled $4,931 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+22.3%).

Exports of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds from Sri Lanka surged to 3.1 tons in 2022, picking up by 29% on 2021. Overall, exports, however, faced a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 59% against the previous year.

In value terms, exports of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds stood at $22K in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 55%.

In general, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 275% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 300 kg, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of molluscs; octopus (octopus spp.), live, fresh or chilleds fell dramatically to $2.7K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 430%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $4.5K, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
