In May 2024, the average import price for newspapers, journals and periodicals, appearing at least four times a week amounted to $7,779 per ton, declining by -6.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 an increase of 35% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $10,343 per ton. From October 2023 to May 2024, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was the United States ($40,120 per ton), while the price for Macao SAR ($1,804 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Macao SAR (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for newspapers, journals and periodicals, appearing at least four times a week amounted to $1,799 per ton, shrinking by -1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 733% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $8,416 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,171 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan totaled $1,584 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Macao SAR (-2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
