The average import price for newspapers, journals and periodicals, appearing at least four times a week stood at $6,005 per ton in 2022, dropping by -6.6% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,429 per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Croatia ($6,547 per ton) and Germany ($5,667 per ton), while the price for Austria ($5,231 per ton) and Serbia ($5,475 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price showed a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7,903 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($13,720 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($4,006 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
