The average import price for newspapers, journals and periodicals, appearing at least four times a week stood at $4,532 per ton in 2022, increasing by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for newspapers, journals and periodicals, appearing at least four times a week increased by +151.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($92,750 per ton), while the price for India ($1,178 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+23.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price peaked at $4,684 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Rwanda.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Sudan amounted to +92.1% per year.
