In May 2024, the average export price for newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week amounted to $3,682 per ton, growing by 25% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 138% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $7,065 per ton. From August 2023 to May 2024, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In May 2024, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($24,077 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bolivia ($2,119 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2023 to May 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Paraguay (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week amounted to $4,251 per ton, with a decrease of -27.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 38%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $7,271 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($15,852 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($2,898 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, shipments abroad of newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week was finally on the rise to reach 272 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a dramatic shrinkage.

In value terms, exports of newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week soared to $1M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic slump.
