In April 2024, the average export price for newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week amounted to $11,922 per ton, with an increase of 84% against the previous month. In general, the export price enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2024 an increase of 236% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $13,630 per ton. From March 2024 to April 2024, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In April 2024, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($14,353 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($228 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2023 to April 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+16.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week stood at $8,379 per ton in April 2024, dropping by -10.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a temperate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2023 an increase of 153% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $18,423 per ton in January 2024; however, from February 2024 to April 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($35,272 per ton), while the price for Serbia ($4,572 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2023 to April 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +13.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 7.7K tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, exports of newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week expanded significantly to $16M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
