The average export price for newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week stood at $16,276 per ton in 2022, picking up by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 137% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($17,414 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($9,126 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In April 2024, the average import price for newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week amounted to $4,527 per ton, waning by -6.9% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a tangible increase from April 2023 to April 2024: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on April 2024 figures, import price for newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week decreased by -20.0% against February 2024 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2023 when the average import price increased by 73% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,660 per ton in February 2024; however, from March 2024 to April 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2024, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($46,179 per ton), while the price for Germany ($2,080 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +47.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 24K tons, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of newspapers, journals and periodicals appearing less frequently than four times a week skyrocketed to $373M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +66.2% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
