The average export price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires stood at $45,407 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 13% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($83,014 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($25,993 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires stood at $32,637 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires increased by +54.8% against 2017 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($42,160 per ton), while the price for Sweden ($15,083 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
