The average import price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires stood at $36,907 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 9.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 19% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $39,073 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($88,017 per ton), while the price for the UK ($34,265 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires amounted to $34,442 per ton, rising by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $57,056 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($60,232 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($25,455 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+15.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires, when their volume increased by 113% to 306 tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep contraction.
