Price for Nickel; Bars, Rods, Profiles and Wire in Switzerland (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average export price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires amounted to $41,920 per ton, surging by 25% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The export price peaked at $49,331 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United States ($46,870 per ton) and Italy ($43,565 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($34,472 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($36,598 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average import price for nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires amounted to $37,065 per ton, which is down by -21.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 27% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $47,377 per ton, and then contracted remarkably in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($44,939 per ton), while the price for India ($29,801 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Nickel; Bars, Rods, Profiles and Wire in Switzerland
In 2022, the amount of nickel; bars, rods, profiles and wires exported from Switzerland expanded to 1.9K tons, growing by 3.8% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a precipitous slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 3.8%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 4.2K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.
