The average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price stood at $25,391 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $26,909 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Norway ($25,419 per ton) and China ($25,408 per ton), while the price for France ($25,368 per ton) and Finland ($25,400 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+31.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Nickel; Unwrought, Not Alloyed in Bolivia

In 2022, overseas purchases of nickel; unwrought, not alloyeds decreased by -35.5% to 1.8 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 33%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.2 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed imports dropped remarkably to $46K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year.
