The average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price stood at $22,965 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price increased by +130.9% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 53%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($25,526 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($16,877 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Nickel; Unwrought, Not Alloyed in Iran
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of nickel; unwrought, not alloyeds, when their volume decreased by -35.8% to 1.2K tons. In general, total imports indicated measured growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.9K tons, and then fell markedly in the following year.
In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed imports shrank markedly to $28M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 56%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $36M, and then fell notably in the following year.
