Price for Nickel; Wire, Not Alloyed in India (FOB) - 2023

The average nickel; wire, not alloyed export price stood at $34,091 per ton in July 2023, approximately reflecting the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $38,253 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($47,475 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($30,559 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average nickel; wire, not alloyed import price stood at $33,145 per ton in 2022, which is down by -31.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 107%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $50,044 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($113,357 per ton), while the price for China ($13,215 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 270 tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, nickel; wire, not alloyed exports surged to $7.5M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
