The average non-aqueous paint and varnish import price stood at $7,654 per ton in 2022, surging by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($22,783 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($3,528 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+15.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average non-aqueous paint and varnish export price stood at $8,974 per ton in August 2023, surging by 25% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a modest expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, non-aqueous paint and varnish export price decreased by -20.5% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 34% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $11,291 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($34,264 per ton), while the average price for exports to Fiji ($4,342 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Non-Aqueous Paint and Varnish in New Zealand
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of paints and varnishes dispersed or dissolved in a non-aqueous medium, when their volume decreased by -12.4% to 9.1K tons.
