Price for Non-Decaffeinated Roasted Coffee in Guatemala (CIF) - 2023
In December 2023, the average non-decaffeinated roasted coffee import price amounted to $10,896 per ton, with a decrease of -5.7% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a mild increase from December 2022 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee import price decreased by -23.9% against October 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 40% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $14,312 per ton in October 2023; however, from November 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($17,200 per ton), while the price for the UK ($7,481 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Non-Decaffeinated Roasted Coffee in Guatemala (FOB) - 2023
In December 2023, the average non-decaffeinated roasted coffee export price amounted to $5,474 per ton, dropping by -18.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 56% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $10,555 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($14,858 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($3,602 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to El Salvador (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Non-Decaffeinated Roasted Coffee in Guatemala
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) decreased by -23.4% to 272 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +41.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 355 tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports rose rapidly to $2.3M in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 240 tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports fell to $1.8M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2M, and then contracted in the following year.
