Price for Nutmeg, Mace and Cardamom in Pakistan (CIF) - 2023
The average nutmeg, mace and cardamom import price stood at $3,969 per ton in February 2023, declining by -15.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 59% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $9,488 per ton. From January 2023 to February 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($5,617 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($3,173 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Price for Nutmeg, Mace and Cardamom in Pakistan (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average nutmeg, mace and cardamom export price amounted to $12,296 per ton, increasing by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 148%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($33,482 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($2,400 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+80.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Nutmeg, Mace and Cardamom in Pakistan
Nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports into Pakistan declined remarkably to 3.8K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -23.7% on the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 4.9K tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports contracted to $28M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.9% against 2020 indices.
