Price for Nutmeg, Mace and Cardamom in Sweden (CIF) - 2022
The average nutmeg, mace and cardamom import price stood at $18,587 per ton in 2022, reducing by -23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 42%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $27,219 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($23,900 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($12,966 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average nutmeg, mace and cardamom export price stood at $27,491 per ton in July 2023, growing by 59% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 73% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $40,284 per ton. From December 2022 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Denmark ($46,277 per ton), while the average price for exports to Norway ($14,968 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Nutmeg, Mace and Cardamom in Sweden
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of nutmeg, mace and cardamoms, when their volume decreased by -0.8% to 355 tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 2.8%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 358 tons, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, nutmeg, mace and cardamom imports dropped rapidly to $6.6M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $9.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
