In September 2023, the average import price for nuts, edible; almonds, fresh or dried, shelleds amounted to $4,544 per ton, rising by 2.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 6.2% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $4,910 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($4,806 per ton), while the price for the United States ($4,176 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In September 2023, the average export price for nuts, edible; almonds, fresh or dried, shelleds amounted to $5,008 per ton, dropping by -4.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,534 per ton. From June 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Curacao ($8,012 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iceland ($5,009 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of nuts, edible; almonds, fresh or dried, shelleds decreased by -2.4% to 47K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 19%.

In value terms, imports of nuts, edible; almonds, fresh or dried, shelleds contracted modestly to $233M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 11%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $260M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
