In October 2023, the average import price for nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds amounted to $6,233 per ton, reducing by -4.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $7,219 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($7,307 per ton), while the price for Benin ($5,729 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds stood at $5,166 per ton in October 2023, waning by -29.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 31% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $9,037 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to October 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($15,464 per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($4,544 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds, when their volume decreased by -7.1% to 9.2K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 9.9K tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, imports of nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds fell to $63M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $72M, and then dropped in the following year.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of 481 tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
