Price for Nuts, Edible; Cashew Nuts, Shelled, Fresh or Dried in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022

In December 2022, the average export price for nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds amounted to $5,756 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 3.4% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $6,060 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to December 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In December 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to Japan ($6,319 per ton) and the Netherlands ($6,187 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($4,759 per ton) and the UK ($5,252 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In December 2022, the average import price for nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds amounted to $4,140 per ton, with a decrease of -3.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,253 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to December 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($7,496 per ton), while the price for Mozambique ($3,433 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Nuts, Edible; Cashew Nuts, Shelled, Fresh or Dried in Vietnam

In 2022, shipments abroad of nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds decreased by -15.4% to 429K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 13% against the previous year.

In value terms, exports of nuts, edible; cashew nuts, shelled, fresh or drieds dropped rapidly to $2.5B in 2022. In general, exports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 8.6% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $3.1B, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
