In January 2024, the average export price for nuts, edible; macadamia, fresh or dried, shelleds amounted to $7,937 per ton, rising by 9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 40% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $12,469 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Spain ($10,371 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($5,061 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average import price for nuts, edible; macadamia, fresh or dried, shelleds amounted to $7,731 per ton, waning by -31.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 149%. The import price peaked at $16,182 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($20,096 per ton), while the price for Swaziland ($1,784 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zimbabwe (+25.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas shipments of nuts, edible; macadamia, fresh or dried, shelleds increased by 6.3% to 13K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt setback.

In value terms, exports of nuts, edible; macadamia, fresh or dried, shelleds contracted markedly to $175M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year.
