The average import price for sunflower seed stood at $4,225 per ton in 2022, falling by -23.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 36%. The import price peaked at $9,177 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($11,840 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($803 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+51.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $707 per ton, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($1,152 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($223 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, imports of sunflower seed expanded slightly to $423M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $489M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
