In 2022, the average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $831 per ton, falling by -34.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 51%. The export price peaked at $1,370 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($1,989 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($385 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $214 per ton in December 2023, growing by 22% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a notable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 55% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $536 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($683 per ton), while the price for Peru ($94.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.

The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years.
