In 2022, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $2,210 per ton, shrinking by -13.1% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds increased by +43.4% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 21%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,695 per ton. From August 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Norway ($1,959 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greenland ($1,166 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+57.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
