The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $346 per ton in 2022, which is down by -23.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 100% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $452 per ton in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,494 per ton), while the price for Togo ($80 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
