The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $915 per ton in October 2023, which is down by -17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 30% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,344 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($3,171 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($321 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $628 per ton, surging by 33% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 99% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $800 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,324 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($296 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
