The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $1,329 per ton in November 2023, with an increase of 2.9% against the previous month. Over the period from November 2022 to November 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 39% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,496 per ton. From March 2023 to November 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($3,067 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($775 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The export price peaked at $1,408 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Macao SAR ($1,650 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($545 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Macao SAR (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
