In November 2023, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $703 per ton, dropping by -9.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $935 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to -1.7% per month.

In November 2023, the average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $598 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 63% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,358 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($1,188 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to $541 per ton.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
