In December 2022, the average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,631 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when the average export price increased by 92% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in December 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($1,930 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($450 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+15.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $547 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 42%. The import price peaked at $1,109 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($550 per ton), while the price for India stood at $528 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (-1.8%).

In 2022, shipments abroad of onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds decreased by -2.5% to 48K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -34.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 86% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 73K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds contracted to $39M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $66M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
