The average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $1,560 per ton in October 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a noticeable expansion from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds increased by +23.8% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 17% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,963 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,043 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($752 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $711 per ton in 2022, reducing by -7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $771 per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($968 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($434 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
