The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $4,570 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 45% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in December 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($11,919 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,034 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+23.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $2,983 per ton, falling by -20.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 264%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,773 per ton in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($5,531 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,281 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+302.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
