The average export price for organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) stood at $1,183 per ton in December 2021, dropping by -8.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 an increase of 20% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,400 per ton in May 2021; however, from June 2021 to December 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Lesotho ($1,625 per ton), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($830 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zimbabwe (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) amounted to $1,587 per ton, declining by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,237 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Taiwan (Chinese).
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Spain amounted to +5.9% per year.
Exports of Organic Surface-Active Agents (Excl. Soap, Anionic, Cationic, Non-Ionic) in South Africa
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of organic surface-active agents (excluding soap, anionic, cationic, non-ionic) decreased by -77.6% to 6.7K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 30K tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
