The average import price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds stood at $280 per ton in 2022, reducing by -13.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 28%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $323 per ton, and then dropped in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the UK ($343 per ton) and Estonia ($339 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($245 per ton) and Latvia ($274 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $202 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Nepal.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +7.7% per year.

In 2022, purchases abroad of peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds decreased by -35.7% to 11K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. As a result, imports attained the peak of 17K tons, and then reduced notably in the following year.
