The average import price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds stood at $259 per ton in December 2023, with an increase of 4.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 29% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $378 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($641 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($239 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds amounted to $475 per ton, rising by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $677 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($760 per ton), while the average price for exports to Maldives ($350 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Papua New Guinea (+28.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds, when their volume decreased by -74.1% to 16K tons. In general, imports showed a dramatic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 61K tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, imports of peat; (including peat litter), whether or not agglomerateds contracted remarkably to $4.4M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 48%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $12M, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
