In 2022, the average import price for petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons; liquefied, natural gasses amounted to $244 per ton, with a decrease of -6.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 2.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $786 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Trinidad and Tobago ($434 per ton), while the price for Colombia ($163 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Trinidad and Tobago (-6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

For the fourth consecutive year, Costa Rica recorded growth in purchases abroad of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons; liquefied, natural gasses, which increased by 4.4% to 193K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons; liquefied, natural gasses contracted modestly to $47M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible decline. The smallest decline of -2.8% was in 2021.
