Price for Petroleum Lubricating Oil and Grease in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average import price for petroleum lubricating oil and grease amounted to $6,175 per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, petroleum lubricating oil and grease import price increased by +47.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 40% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($8,987 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($2,780 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+21.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for petroleum lubricating oil and grease amounted to $2,717 per ton, declining by -42.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 152% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $10,885 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Bangladesh.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to +37.7% per year.
Imports of Petroleum Lubricating Oil and Grease in Sri Lanka
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of petroleum lubricating oil and grease, when their volume decreased by -45.3% to 451 tons. Overall, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 824 tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
