The average import price for phenols or phenol-alcohols; halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives thereoves stood at $2,419 per ton in December 2023, falling by -2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 5.4% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $5,359 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were India ($3,271 per ton) and Japan ($3,212 per ton), while the price for Jordan ($2,325 per ton) and the United States ($2,371 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (-3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for phenols or phenol-alcohols; halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives thereoves amounted to $5,511 per ton, shrinking by -11.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 40% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,419 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($16,967 per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($1,934 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of phenols or phenol-alcohols; halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives thereoves skyrocketed to $501M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
