The average export price for pig fat; lard, other than that of heading 0209 and 1503s stood at $2,026 per ton in March 2024, shrinking by -4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2024 an increase of 33% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,110 per ton, and then shrank slightly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,883 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,719 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2023 to March 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In December 2023, the average import price for pig fat; lard, other than that of heading 0209 and 1503s amounted to $1,157 per ton, waning by -4.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,697 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,719 per ton), while the price for Germany ($1,122 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, exports of pig fat; lard, other than that of heading 0209 and 1503s from the Netherlands declined to 12K tons, waning by -9.9% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 14K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
