The average import price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants stood at $235 per thousand units in November 2023, growing by 195% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a strong increase. The import price peaked at $2.0 per unit in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to November 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($468 per thousand units), while the price for Germany totaled $46.0 per thousand units.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants amounted to $0.4 per unit, with a decrease of -8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 158%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $0.5 per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($1.9 per unit), while the average price for exports to Germany ($0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+20.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants increased by 8.2% to 6.6M units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a sharp slump. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum at 19M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants surged to $4.1M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 118%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 2.5M units, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, exports of plants, live; bulbs, tubers, tuberous roots, corms, crowns and rhizomes, dormants shrank dramatically to $907K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 348%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $1.1M in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
