Price for Poly(Lactic Acid); in Primary Forms in Thailand (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average export price for poly(lactic acid); in primary formses amounted to $2,133 per ton, flattening at the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.4% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,224 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United States ($2,175 per ton) and South Korea ($2,146 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($2,103 per ton) and Turkey ($2,109 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for poly(lactic acid); in primary formses amounted to $3,344 per ton, growing by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The import price peaked at $3,816 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($39,387 per ton), while the price for the United States ($3,209 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+20.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Poly(Lactic Acid); in Primary Forms in Thailand
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of poly(lactic acid); in primary formses decreased by -4% to 54K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 63%.
In value terms, poly(lactic acid); in primary forms exports reduced notably to $92M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 59% against the previous year.

For the fourth consecutive year, Thailand recorded growth in purchases abroad of poly(lactic acid); in primary formses, which increased by 12% to 1.5K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, poly(lactic acid); in primary forms imports surged to $5M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
