Price for Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Kenya (CIF) - 2022
The average polyolefins other than polypropylene import price stood at $1,660 per ton in December 2021, picking up by 7.3% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2021 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2021 when the average import price increased by 15% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,869 per ton. From June 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from China ($1,769 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($1,712 per ton), while the price for India ($1,424 per ton) and South Korea ($1,467 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Kenya (FOB) - 2022
The average polyolefins other than polypropylene export price stood at $1,325 per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 19%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,075 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($2,223 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($927 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Polyolefins Other than Polypropylene in Kenya
Polyolefins other than polypropylene imports into Kenya reached 47K tons in 2022, almost unchanged from 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 48K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polyolefins other than polypropylene imports fell to $67M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 46%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $70M, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In value terms, polyolefins other than polypropylene exports contracted significantly to $403K in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion.
