Price for Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Colombia (FOB) - 2022
The average polypropylene in primary forms export price stood at $1,783 per ton in February 2022, reducing by -8.8% against the previous month. Over the period from February 2021 to February 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2021 an increase of 25% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,252 per ton in May 2021; however, from June 2021 to February 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In February 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Venezuela ($2,026 per ton) and the Dominican Republic ($1,932 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($1,702 per ton) and El Salvador ($1,705 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From February 2021 to February 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bolivia (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In February 2022, the average polypropylene in primary forms import price amounted to $1,854 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period from February 2021 to February 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2021 when the average import price increased by 18% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,097 per ton in December 2021; however, from January 2022 to February 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2022, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($1,865 per ton) and China ($1,849 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($1,671 per ton) and Oman ($1,706 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From February 2021 to February 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Polypropylene in Primary Forms in Colombia
In 2022, shipments abroad of polypropylene in primary forms decreased by -5.6% to 184K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 221K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms exports declined to $312M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $347M, and then declined in the following year.
