In July 2023, the average powders of pig iron import price amounted to $2,146 per ton, dropping by -21.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 18% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $3,696 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,434 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($962 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average powders of pig iron export price amounted to $615 per ton, growing by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 12%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,034 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,630 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($195 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +83.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 75%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
