Price for Pulps of Other Fibrous Cellulosic Material in China (CIF) - 2024
In April 2024, the average import price for pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials amounted to $280 per ton, increasing by 2.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2024 when the average import price increased by 3.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $302 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to April 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,249 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($213 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to April 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials stood at $1,422 per ton in April 2024, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 an increase of 9.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,797 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to April 2024, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($1,766 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($915 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2023 to April 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Pulps of Other Fibrous Cellulosic Material in China
In 2022, approx. 2.9M tons of pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials were imported into China; rising by 18% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, imports of pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials skyrocketed to $1.3B in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 95%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
