The average import price for pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials stood at $3,135 per ton in December 2023, reducing by -6.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2023 an increase of 152% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3,338 per ton in November 2023, and then contracted in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($4,670 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($1,070 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Pulps of Other Fibrous Cellulosic Material in Nigeria
For the fourth consecutive year, Nigeria recorded growth in supplies from abroad of pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials, which increased by 12% to 5.2K tons in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 133% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, imports of pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials rose markedly to $8.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +26.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +101.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
