The average import price for pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials stood at $954 per ton in March 2023, which is down by -6.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,053 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to March 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was Chile ($958 per ton), while the price for Brazil amounted to $948 per ton.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.2%).
Imports of Pulps of Other Fibrous Cellulosic Material in the Dominican Republic
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials decreased by -22.9% to 25K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 32K tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, imports of pulps of other fibrous cellulosic materials dropped to $22M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $25M, and then dropped in the following year.
