The average import price for residues; of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous mineralses stood at $233 per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 255% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,185 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($267 per ton), while the price for Democratic Republic of the Congo totaled $231 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Democratic Republic of the Congo (+5.4%).

Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 85%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $698 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($1,716 per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($34 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+15.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of residues; of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous mineralses decreased by -8.8% to 599 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 925% against the previous year.

In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 99%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 34 tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, exports of residues; of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous mineralses declined markedly to $18K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 132% against the previous year.
